A popular statement is that we need to eat to lose weight fast but that doesn’t seem to matter to our actual weight. In North America there are thousands of people who are overweight some of them massively, causing a burden on the health care system, as weight related diseases like diabetes occur more often. It’s not like we are unaware of the problem, as there are hundreds of different diets to lose weight fast we can try, some that use diet pills, others that don’t use drugs at all. And we know the need for exercise too, as there are plenty of gyms opening up all over the country, with lots of personal trainers available to help us in our goal to get fit and lose weight.

So why are so many of us overweight? And what can we do about it? In the past food was not always available, or it was rationed like during the war years in some countries, but lately, there is plenty of food around for the majority of, there is little hardship involved in buying food supplies, and it is incredibly easy to buy a a ready made meal at the end of the day when we have finished work. Unfortunately, it is because of the ease of having instant food available any hour of the day or night that has strongly affected the weight issue. The fast food industry has flourished, with there being many choices in most cities, all within the same block even, and unfortunately these are not the best choices to make for our health and weight.

Fast food typically contains a lot of cholesterol - it’s the salt and fat that make it taste so good!- and a lot of salt, and the desserts with incredible amounts of sugar, none of which helps our waistlines. In reality we need very little sodium (salt) in our diet, and we can get all sweetness we need naturally from foods like fruits. But as we eat more fast foods, it is costing us in terms of our health, and the amount of the healthy foods we eat. Take a look at this scenario, eating a burger with fries does not provide you with any healthy green or orange vegetables, and an ice cream dessert, while it does contain calcium in the milk used to make the ice cream, typically doesn’t have any significant amount of fruit in it, while it does have a lot of sugar.

You should know that you can eat to lose weight, but you do have to eat the right things, foods that are healthy for you and will help your body functionmore easily. The foods you should be eating are the foods that you have been told repeatedly that you should eat, foods like vegetables and fruits, whole grain cereals, fish, poultry and low fat meats, and low fat dairy products. By consuming these products, we can change our diets from an unhealthy one of high cholesterol, to one that is far healthier for us - and it is possible to enjoy these foods.

When it comes to fruits, there are now far more choices for the fruits that we eat, thanks to the fruits that are imported from all over the world. We are no longer limited to home grown fruits, we have mangoes, and starfruit from India, mandarin oranges from China, and pineapples from Hawaii, and many other fruits from other countries too. In fact, because of, the fast distribution system now in place, fruits arrive in excellent condition and ready to eat. The same applies to vegetables obviously, although we tend not to get too excited about the new arrival of those!

If we are to lose-weight-in-a-week , then we need to concentrate on these healthier foods, the fruits and the vegetables, along with fish, poultry and low fat meats, but we also need to eat in moderation, something that most of us tend not to do. Our bodies have become used to large meals, larger than we actually need, so by reducing portion sizes slowly, and eating healthier choices, we will be able to make a huge impact on our health and our weight.
